Khamtang Ponve - Mekhala is woven from cotton by National Awardee Vekuvolu Dozo. The design, called Khamtang Zem, is a traditional pattern of the Kuki community. With due permission from the Kuki Mother’s Association Nagaland, the original pattern has been carefully preserved, only enlarged in scale and woven in different colors. This piece reflects both the artistry of the weaver and the cultural heritage it represents.
